Since the fall of 2007, the Performing Arts Program has provided performing arts instruction for more than a hundred young people in Washington, DC and the surrounding area. Instruction includes dance, vocal performance, acting, musical theater, stage presence, and audition techniques, to name a few.
Taratibu Youth Association's Performing Arts Program also offers performance opportunities throughout the year and culminating in a presentation of Taratibu Youth Association's annual performance commemorating Black History Month in February.
Taratibu Youth Association's Performing Arts Program is for girls and boys from 12 to 18 years old who must audition though no previous performance experience is necessary.
With eclectic and diverse musical influences, this sensational ensemble of young artists performs modern dance, ballet and hip hop, and African dance at diverse venues around the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
We have our strongest roots in Taratibu, which combines contemporary military drill movements with traditional African dance. Taratibu is an art form that also integrates vocals, including traditional Negro spirituals, contemporary gospel and songs in Kiswahili, the national language of several East African countries, as well as vocals in Zulu, the most widely spoken language in South Africa.
Best known for powerful and high energy dancing, unique choreography, and exceptional vocal harmonies, Taratibu Youth Association is composed of performers ranging from 12 to 18 years of age.
Our performers maintain a rigorous rehearsal schedule three times a week while also meeting high academic expectations during the school year. In addition to being excellent dancers and vocalists, the performers are talented writers who produce and perform insightful commentaries and vivid monologues. Performers also engage in community service activities and they raise donations for kids in need.
