Taratibu Youth Association brought its unique form of dance and song to Martha’s Vineyard this summer with Jones-Haywood Dance School.
After a performance culminating several weeks of instruction, the girls were pictured on the front page of the local Martha’s Vineyard newspaper!
The performance was a collaboration between Taratibu Youth Association and Jones-Haywood Dance School, established in 1941 and offering classical and contemporary dance training as well as choreographic and performance opportunities.
The partnership gives both organizations an opportunity to exchange dance instructors, teach new dance styles to kids, and have joint performances.
Performers in Taratibu Youth Association’s dance company participated in ballet classes at Jones-Haywood. TYA Director Arla Scott also trained the students at Jones-Haywood in Taratibu.
Our collaboration resulted in a ballet performance held at American University in June and the second was at the Jones-Haywood’s summer program in Martha’s Vineyard. Both performances were resounding successes!
In September, Jones-Haywood Dance School will conduct a master ballet class at our studios in Mt. Rainier. Sandra Fortune Green, Director of Jones-Haywood, will teach the class.
