Taratibu Youth Association has been selected to participate in the 46th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival. This annual outdoor event will take place June 27 to July I and July 4 to July 8,2012, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., surrounded by the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the museums of the Smithsonian Institution.
The Festival features three programs this year:
- Citifìed: Arts and Creativity East of the Anacostia River, highlighting creativity, identity, and community in Washington, D.C. communities east of the Anacostia River
- Campus and Community, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of land-grant universities and the USDA
- Creativity and Crisis: Unfolding The AIDS Memorial Quilt, marking the25th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and 30 years of life with AIDS.
More than one million visitors attend this free event, and we are thrilled to be participating this year in the Festival’s Citified program! The Citified program is produced by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural
Heritage in partnership with the Anacostia Community Museum. Taratibu Youth Association will join the Smithsonia Folklife Festival for four days on July 4, 5, 6 and 8, with two performances each day.
