During our trip to Tanzania, we visited the Bugorora Primary School. One of our partner organizations, Shina, Inc., generously donated school uniforms for the children. We noticed that many of the children did not have shoes to wear. So we made a decision. We made a plan to organize a shoe campaign to benefit the children at the Bugorora School in Tanzania.
Back at home, we partnered with Young Leaders United, Inc. to help get the ball rolling. We kicked off the shoe campaign in January 2012. Our goal was to collect 200 pairs of new or gently used shoes. With Youth Leaders United, we recruited several schools here in the local area to participate as drop off locations for the shoes, we delivered boxes to collect the shoes, and we asked for shoe donations wherever we went.
Our shoe campaign was a big success! We collected a grand total of 251 pairs of shoes! This weekend, we came together with Youth Leaders United, Inc. and Shina, Inc. to organize and pack up the shoes for shipping to Tanzania. Very soon, the children at Bugorora Primary School will be getting the shoes.
We wanted to thank Young Leaders United for leading this effort. We were so proud to be a part of this campaign, along with SHINA Inc! We also wanted to thank everyone who donated shoes as well as the local schools that participated!
